Have you tried disconnecting both drives, rebooting then reconnecting them?

I highly doubt uninstalling sound drivers would cause your cdrom to disappear. What happens in safe mode? It could be software like easy cd creator, or a resource conflict. In msinfo32 go to hardware compoants, and conflicts/sharing, see if anything is sharing your cdrom. You could also try disabling the sound card, if that works it's a resource conflict.
