You're missing a couple key points meandrake: 1 - You didnt ask if there using home or pro. You cannot use admnistrator in home in regular mode, but you can use it in safe mode. 2 - You didnt clarify what this person wants. "tools" is very vague. Are they talking about recovery console? Msconfig? what are they trying to access. 3 - THe person said there using a BRAND new computer. A couple of points here - new computers had a bug where recovery console would reject the admin password in recovery console because of a bug in sysprep. Microsoft quickly released a fix but no oem's i am aware of actually installed this hotfix. If you already have recovery console installed sp1 does not fix this, you have to download the update. If this person goes to windows update there should be an update for this issue. 4 - The tip about control userpasswords2 was a great thought. Another way to do this would be to type net user administrator password, from a cmd prompt. -gosh
