The ability to rip a CD to MP3 format requires a 3rd party application (or a MP3 plug-in for Windows Media Player). Since this ability is essentially a sub-set of an application, you have to open the application first to get to the ripping utility. As to registry hacks, there wouldn't be one (even if there is, making changes to the registry that are incorrect could bring the entire system down - where it won't start). There may be able a way to write a script that would open Nero (or whatever other application you want to use) to open up the application to it's "ripping" subset. ---------------------------------------------- Work is for people who don't know how to surf

Of course it's a registry key. For full information see http://msdn.microsoft.com/msdnmag/issues/01/11/Autoplay/default.aspx The best way to edit autoplay is to download TweakUI, which allows you to edit and delete auto play handlers. Programs written for xp will register themselves for the right handler so you really shouldn't edit anything. -gosh
