I have the very same problem, have had for six months. I've changed nic's, changed slots, totally reformatted and installed xp pro to no avail. My connection will just drop unexpectedly and upon reboot be back to normal. Anyone?
Originally Posted by cyberj: If you happen to be using a USB modem the problem could be that X*wee wee*et to power down USB hardware when not in use for a certain amount of time. You could disable the this by going to device manager, open universal serial bus controllers and then usb root hub properties then choose power management tab and disable "allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" the modem will no longer turn off when not in use for a period of time. Hope this helps.
Nope...no usb involved. Thanks for the suggestion tho'. Asus cusl2 mobo Netgear FA311 nic Fujitsu DSL modem P3 1gig 512 megs Ram WindowsXP Pro Netgear RP614 Router
Check (on both machines) - Device manager - Network Adapters - Advanced/properties, make sure the "Turn off this device to save power" option is not checked. Dan
Sorry,, no help there either. But thanks. 'Turn off this device to save power" is not an option in xp pro for network adapter cards. At least not on mine.
