That will work. You may have caused problems though if you ever want it back but I doubt it.

You cannot remove windows messanger in windows xp home or pro edition. You can disable it from starting at startup, however it will find its way back if you read your email, something like that. If you delete it, windows file protection will automatically restore it. Windows messanger is not in add/remove programs. There's only 1 true way to keep it away, which is a PRO policy. What this does is unload windows messanger everytime its loaded.

To do this, save everything below into a new text file. Then save it as file.reg, and then double click on it. Once you reboot, no more messenger! This works on home and pro.

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Messenger\Client]
"PreventRun"=dword:00000001
"PreventAutoRun"=dword:00000001

Also, if those baloon tips annoy you, copy the following into another .reg file and double click on it;

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced]
"EnableBalloonTips"=dword:00000000

Ludicious, why bother doing that? Ive seen that crap on every website, and its not perfect. If you update windows/msn messanger that fix wont work.
