| SP2 won't really affect virtual memory. For starters, what applications load at startup (i.e. whats in the start up folder). Next, take a look at applications such as Norton SystemWorks (which is a resource pig). If that's running in the background, consider shutting it down. Next, download and run both Spybot and Adaware. Spyware can cause the problems you describe. Additionally, clean out the temp file. Also, you didn't mention which applications may be causing the problem. | jimmyhoffa - loved your response...plain as day. Something else just occurred to me. Low virtual memory can also be attributed to not having enough hard disc space to create a swap file (yes, WinXP has a swap file). Check to see how much drive space is left.
