Hmm couple things come to mind:

if you have the cd, and reboot, it'll say "press any key to boot from cd...", make sure your not pressing any key of course, otherwise itll just keep looping.

Also, do you have a drive overlay such as Easy BIOS? Setup could be conflicting with that.

You could look at setup files setupact.log, setupapi.log, winnt32.log, setuplog.txt. Look at the bottom for any errors. I suspect there will be soemthing in setupact.log.

Another thing is your motherboard isnt on the HCL. Sometimes this can be tricky with motherboards, since only replacement motherboards are tested for HCL, however i see a 8kta2 on the list for win2k, but nothing for winxp. I would need more information before saying the motherboard is the problem though. Another thing you could try is disabling PnP OS in the bios.

But obviously this is hardware, you need to go to www.microsoft.com/hcl , and search each device to see if its listed. If it isnt listed, or not listed for xp, it might not be compatible.
