nt4 uses a thing called home folders to store your data. So your user info would be stored as something like \\server\users\you\homefolder\. Win2k and xp have support for this, but there behavior is different. So i theres a good possibility something on the server needs to be changed, not on the client. The user profile is ntuser.dat, if its a mandatory profile its ntuser.man.

One thing to understand for xp, is that the naming behavior for drive letters has change. For instance to map a network drive, this is really a dos command as such:

net use * \\server\sharename (i believe thats right)

in xp this will assign the share to drive Z, in win98 itll assign the share to the next drive letter. Might want to check hows its being shared.

You might want to also look at http://support.microsoft.com/directory/article.asp?ID=KB;EN-US;Q258832

THis is something your admin should know how to do, if not you should get a new admin.
