Well wait a minute here. You installed a NIC that caused the system to hang, did you use system restore? That's what you should do first. However i think you reinstalled windows, if you did the erased all restore points.

Why did you try 4 different nic's? I dont get the point of doing that.

Did you force a standard hal, is that what you mean? I dont see what the bios has to do with nic drivers.

Use sigverif and rename any drivers it finds. I would be also look at event viewer to see if anything is being logged. Are you on a network like a domain?
