Hope someone is able to help....any info or opinions would be greatly appreciated...I am not a PC genius, but I do try to do the right thing by my PC!!!! My PC is 4 yrs old with a new motherboard and has been EXCELLENT most of the time. Last Tuesday night I installed a webcam for the 1st time (Logitech) with a few WINDOWS warnings popping up which seems the norm when I install anything anyhow. The next morning my PC CRASHED BIG TIME. To be FAIR it crashed for the 1st time October last year as well and took a few days to get it up and running again, but not as perfect as it was originally. Wednesday morning when I rebooted it did go to the normal screen after putting in my p@ssword and then stopped and crashed...it also did this when in SAFE MODE....going to the screen and then stopping and crashing yet again. The BLUE SCREEN of DEATH must have reared its head 10 times that morning! I took out the battery and gave it a rest then tried it again in the afternoon. Point 1: When I woke to see the BLUE SCREEN I noticed the BATTERY LIGHT was ORANGE, but this seemed to be ok after I took the adapter plug out and battery for a short time then put them back in. After this ALL LIGHTS were GREEN again. Point 2: I did notice before it crashed each time that in the area of where the INTERNAL HARD DRIVE or DISK is...there was a loud whirring sound and a clunk like noise a few times before the BLUE SCREEN came up. In the afternoon it seemed to be ok again as it lasted 5 minutes without CRASHING, but alas it did CRASH when I tried to go into MY COMPUTER and it happened a number of times after this even when it was just BOOTING!!!! It CRASHED after BOOTONG 3 times at least! Anyways, I thought it was time to use my RECOVERY or REINSTALLMENT DISKS. Unfortunately, this has made matters worse as now IDE #! ERROR comes up followed by A); something like that or it goes into giving me OPTIONS only to CRASH shortly afterwards or to ask for my disk to START the PROCESS but like in a LOOP. eg 1)Put cd in drive 2) yes or no to recover 3) A to ABORT or C to Continue and then it seems like it is doing it then POWERS OFF...REBOOTS... and REPEATS the same thing over and over again..... POINT 3: DVD/CD door does OPEN, LED Lights are GREEN, but the ONE that usually FLICKERS when DRIVE is THINKING STAYS SOLID GREEN. I dont know if my WEBCAM Hardware or software triggered this or if my drive h@sslowly been dying for a while...or if the problem is completely something else, however, I am thinking that maybe it isnt SOFTWARE or HARWARE as I wouldnt have been able to go in to SAFE MODE in the 1st place or I wouldnt be able to OPEN the DVD/CD door or see lights let alone START the PC which is does still do. Am wondering then if it is my INTERNAL HARD DRIVE and if this needs to be replaced. Would it perhaps solve the problem? Worried with it being a TOSHIBA as I have heard sometimes they do not take to other parts being put in even if it MATCHES what was there in the 1st place. Last POINT: When I couldnt TURN POWER OFF the last time. I turned it over to locate the BATTERY to TURN IT OFF that way by taking it OUT. Where the INTERNAL DRIVE was...I brushed over it with my hand.... and it just made that SICK WHIRRING SOUND TENTH FOLD in that very area. CHUGGA CHUGGA CHUGGA. I didnt know if it was because of me touching the cover or because I had turned it upside down. If anyone could shed a light or their thoughts please do! Min

*****This Is MIN again....I lost my P@ssWORD....but here is an UPDATE***** SOLUTION: I replaced internal hard drive with a compatible one as it is an IDE drive version. However, for some reason it still would not RECOGNISE my RECOVERY or INSTALLMENT DISK [emote|(S)]. I had to change the BIOS which took some time as I had to use another PC to find out info. along the way. After many attempts I was able to do this and then my disk was READABLE and I was able to REFORMAT or INSTALL WINDOWS XP on to the new hard drive. So, it was not a HARDWARE or SOFTWARE PROBLEM in my case nor a VIRUS, but just my HARD DRIVE slowly dying.
