Which version of Messenger are you trying to run? i.e. Windows Live Messenger or Windows Messenger (the version that comes with WinXP? If it's the OLD version of MSN Messenger, note that it's been replaced with Windows Live Messenger. I'd recommend uninstalling MSN Messenger and install the new version (you can download it from Microsoft - on their site, search for Windows Live Messenger). ---------------------------------------------- Work is for people who don't know how to surf Gateway Performance 1800 - P4 1.8gz, 1gig RAM, nVidia 5200; SB Audigy SE; Windows Vista Business, Photoshop CS2, Nikon D200 and D100

My first thought is to uninstall Zone Alarm and disable your AV, and try again. Is this a legit copy of WinXP? Also, have you downloaded/installed anything "unusual" from the internet? ---------------------------------------------- Work is for people who don't know how to surf Gateway Performance 1800 - P4 1.8gz, 1gig RAM, nVidia 5200; SB Audigy SE; Windows Vista Business, Photoshop CS2, Nikon D200 and D100

Marino Back up your data and do a clean install - i.e. have WinXP completely reformat your HD and reinstall a clean copy. Something's gone aray to where Messenger won't install correctly (i.e. a virus, worm, etc). w/o having direct access to your computer, at this point it's almost impossible to diagnose. ---------------------------------------------- Work is for people who don't know how to surf Gateway Performance 1800 - P4 1.8gz, 1gig RAM, nVidia 5200; SB Audigy SE; Windows Vista Business, Photoshop CS2, Nikon D200 and D100

The short answer...nope. The long answer, w/o knowing what exactly is wrong, a clean install should address the problem. Yes...it will take several hours to reformat and reinstall WinXP and your programs, but you'll be a happy camper afterwords. ---------------------------------------------- Work is for people who don't know how to surf Gateway Performance 1800 - P4 1.8gz, 1gig RAM, nVidia 5200; SB Audigy SE; Windows Vista Business, Photoshop CS2, Nikon D200 and D100
