I formatted my HDD. When I was reinstalling XP the text mode portion of the setup went fine but when the comp restarted the blue bar under the windows xp logo just hung. It happened all the time whenever I restarted the pc. I even checked and cleaned the RAM but the problem persists. I dint face such type of a problem before formatting. Its a Samsung HDD 40GB SP0411N model. Plz help.

It sounds like your motherboard requires a specific driver for the HD controller. When you first install WinXP, there's a bar at the bottom saying to press F2 to install 3rd party disc controllers. Check with your mobo mfgr to see if this is the case. If so, copy the file to a floppy (or CD if your computer doesn't have a floppy), and reinstall WinXP. ---------------------------------------------- Work is for people who don't know how to surf Gateway Performance 1800 - P4 1.8gz, 1gig RAM, nVidia 5200; SB Audigy SE; Windows Vista Business, Photoshop CS2, Nikon D200 and D100

Thx for the quick reply Jedi Master. I dnt think theres any driver problem regarding the HD controller coz both the HDD and the motherboard are just a year old. Are there any chances of the HDD problem like failure of track zero or something? If yes, are there any diagnostic tools to check the same? I checked on the samsung website but the tools there are for other models not mine. Plz help.

It could be (I still think it may be the HD controller driver). Suggest taking your system into a reputable shop to have them diagnose it ---------------------------------------------- Work is for people who don't know how to surf Gateway Performance 1800 - P4 1.8gz, 1gig RAM, nVidia 5200; SB Audigy SE; Windows Vista Business, Photoshop CS2, Nikon D200 and D100
