i just reinstalled windows XP with service pack 2, and i used the OS disks that i got with the computer, it is a Emachines desktop. and i have no sound what soever the audio driver says that its out of date and i did several updates of windows and when i try to update it from the control pannel part of it or w.e it only has the option of updating it from a disk which i dont have as it was boughten from a store, shouldnt there be a option to update from the internet? if so how do i get to that, or any other way to fix my sound.

Hi Markcav I recovered my friends PC sound after his hard disk failed. His motherboard is GA-8SIMLNF VER 2.0 . This identity is clearly printed on the motherboard. In DirectX I believe the motherboard was identified as GA-8SIMLNF REV 1.x. The driver is described as ‘SigmaTel C-Major (STAC97N) for SiS audio driver’. The drive install file is called STAC97N_613109010.exe and is suitable for XP operating system. At the time I wrote this the download link was http://support.packardbell.com/uk/item/index.php?m=download&i=REFFIUP04880400;STAC97N_613109010.exe but if this link is invalid I suggest you go to http://support.packardbell.com/uk and click through the site's ‘model selector’ until you get to the down load support sections for PC models IXTREME 6052 or IMEDIA 3042. You will find the audio driver installation file there. Both of these models use the GA-8SIMLNF motherboard and are manufactured by Packard Bell.
