Please contact the application's support team for more information. I get that EXACT ( Caps and all ) error message when i visit a lot of websites. can someone think of a way to fix it? i looked on other threads and deleted my google taskbar and it didnt help at all. oh yes and i ran a system restore from 2 days ago since this error came up today but nothing changed. also have just noticed when loading internet pages they tend to freeze a lot... =(

First, clear out the temporary internet files, then download and run something like Spybot. Which version of IE, and what Windows OS are you running? ---------------------------------------------- Work is for people who don't know how to surf Gateway Performance 700C - P4 1.8gz, 1gig RAM, ATi Radeon 9550; SB Audigy SE; Windows Vista Business, Photoshop CS3, Nikon D200

Did the error occur BEFORE you ran system restore or afterwards? Also, have you downloaded or installed any unusual programs or installed an IE add-on (if so, which ones). Can you also post your system spec's (i.e. processor - Intel or AMD, video card - ATi or nVidia, etc.) Lastly, what antivirus are you using? The above may help to diagnose the problem, and find a possible solution. ---------------------------------------------- Work is for people who don't know how to surf Gateway Performance 700C - P4 1.8gz, 1gig RAM, ATi Radeon 9550; SB Audigy SE; Windows Vista Business, Photoshop CS3, Nikon D200

all right. now the problem was BEFORE i ran system restore. i did that to see if it would go away. it did not... i dont remember downloading anything. im using AMD processor and NVidia graphics card. and mcafee security center v7.2 with virus scan spam killer the personal firewall and the privacy service. and i did spybot search and destroy. i got it AFTER problem as well. nothing came up on scan. also did my virus scan. nothing. hope you can help me... ive seen you fix others peoples computers too.

I had a similar problem when WinXP came out. It turned out it was related to the video card drivers. Check to make sure that you have the latest from nVidia, and any motherboard drivers are up to date. Next, back up all of your data, favorites, etc. and then try running the recovery console (reboot with the Vista DVD). See if that works. FWIW, I found McAfee to be a total system resource pig. I switched to Avast (free) which makes only a minor hit on system resources. ---------------------------------------------- Work is for people who don't know how to surf Gateway Performance 700C - P4 1.8gz, 1gig RAM, ATi Radeon 9550; SB Audigy SE; Windows Vista Business, Photoshop CS3, Nikon D200

sadly i must say it looks like i have no other choice.... booting from disk now. not much work to get back my files. im not even gonna back them. most of my files were only used a little anyway. i just want to know... WHAT HAPPENS IF THIS DOESNT FIX IT?!?!?!

#14 By 655 (128.249.200.4) at Monday, November 12, 2007 12:35:34 PM
We cross that bridge if it comes up. The alternative is to do a clean install. One thing I'd suggest is to ditch McAfee and go with Avast. As I said, McAfee tends to be a huge resource pig (as does Symantec, but definitely stay away from Symantec). ---------------------------------------------- Work is for people who don't know how to surf Gateway Performance 700C - P4 1.8gz, 1gig RAM, ATi Radeon 9550; SB Audigy SE; Windows Vista Business, Photoshop CS3, Nikon D200

(heh im spamming my own thread.. oh well) ok now going WAAAY off topic with this but i have a WHOLE other question. when i got my new computer it came with 1 gig of ram. i bought another card with 1 gig on it. while installing it i noticed my motherboard only has 2 of the little ram slot thingies. is there a way i can buy the extra slots without buying a whole new computer of whole new motherboard? oh and...thanks for all the help jedimaster. YOU ROCK!

To answer both your questions - 1. Symantec - www.symantec.com - but, and that's one big BUTT, don't, DO NOT purchase their antivirus. It's crap! Check out Avast (www.avast.com) 2. What you're going to have to do is purchase two 1gig RAM chips, and sell the two 500meg chips on EBay. Glad to hear that the restore worked. ---------------------------------------------- Work is for people who don't know how to surf Gateway Performance 700C - P4 1.8gz, 1gig RAM, ATi Radeon 9550; SB Audigy SE; Windows Vista Business, Photoshop CS3, Nikon D200

Avast Home is actually free. Check out their website. It's the pro version you have to pay for. ---------------------------------------------- Work is for people who don't know how to surf Gateway Performance 700C - P4 1.8gz, 1gig RAM, ATi Radeon 9550; SB Audigy SE; Windows Vista Business, Photoshop CS3, Nikon D200

another thing. you never answered the off topic question. ok look you know how you open your computer. you look at the motherboard and youve got all the slots for extra expansions and junk. i have 2 ram slots. 2! and my sister has 4. my friends got 4 too. i wanna know how do i get 2 more slots for my motherboard. its got the 2 spaces and the holes. and the indent. where can i go and buy the slot if i can? ebay? walmart? target? where?!?!?!? even still. if i cant, how much is a motherboard with 4 ram slots of DDr2 and all the slots?

#26 By 655 (70.231.47.225) at Wednesday, November 21, 2007 05:28:39 AM
The parts may be available, and the holes there to solder them in, but I do NOT recommend you do this yourself. You run a 99% chance of permanently damaging the motherboard. There may have been a reason that the motherboard mfgr did not include these. The alternative is to purchase a new motherboard that supports the additional RAM. In case someone brings it up, there used to be an aftermarket add-in that would expand one slot to handle two sticks of RAM, but it didn't work well and caused problems. As I said, there may be a reason the motherboard mfgr only included two slots for RAM, and the BIOS may only support so much RAM. ---------------------------------------------- Work is for people who don't know how to surf Gateway Performance 700C - P4 1.8gz, 1gig RAM, ATi Radeon 9550; SB Audigy SE; Windows Vista Business, Photoshop CS3, Nikon D200

hmmm... so how much is a new motherboard with 4 ram slots? i dont like not having max speed.... high quality mmorpg's dont lag AS MUCH but they lag. me+lag=bad.

Much depends upon who makes it, what features, etc. The biggest issue is making sure that you get a motherboard that will accomodate your current processor, RAM and has the same form factor. If you have an Intel processor, go with an Intel made motherboard. If AMD, stay away from anything with a VIA chipset. Motherboards with nVidia or ATi chipsets perform a whole mess better than VIA garbage. ---------------------------------------------- Work is for people who don't know how to surf Gateway Performance 700C - P4 1.8gz, 1gig RAM, ATi Radeon 9550; SB Audigy SE; Windows Vista Business, Photoshop CS3, Nikon D200
