hi, i have a problem with my pc which i dont know where to put my finger on. i having problem running in running games. everytime i try to run a game i get a message from the monitor (power saving mode.....) and then the monitor going black while i can still hear the pc running (the vents). its first happening to me 2 weeks ago after installed COD4 and GOW , so first i thought maybe my video card cant handle those games (my video card is ati x1950pro agp). also at that time there was some loud noise from one of the ventilated so i opened to box and saw that the vent on the video card isnt working. today (2 weeks after) i returned from the lab with a brand new video card , they upgrade it from x1950pro 256mb to x1950pro 512mb, so i put it in, and installed new driver but again same problem accured but now i decided to check other games that worked perfectly before and the same problem accured. if thats not a video card problem (although its sounded like- the new video card deny this theory) what could it be ? i considering put the hole pc to the lab to check it out , but im not realy want to , cause they like a garage , u can never be sure that what they are telling you, is the truth. maybe it the agp slot ?! please advise . also, i have a lot of stuff, i dont want to guy at the lab see , can i do something about that ?

Take the computer in to a reputable shop and have them check the power supply. Games are a heavy drain on power, and this sounds like an issue related to the power supply. ---------------------------------------------- Work is for people who don't know how to surf Gateway Performance 700C - P4 1.8gz, 1gig RAM, ATi Radeon 9550; SB Audigy SE; Windows Vista Business, Photoshop CS3, Nikon D200
Originally Posted by fibola: how come it happen only when i running games ?
As I said, games require a lot (A LOT!) of power and system resources. If the power supply is going bad, high demands could cause it to shut the system down. Getting it checked by a reputable firm could confirm this. It's better to pay the $$ and have the system fully checked out, rather than waste money by swapping components. Power supplies can go bad for a variety of reasons - power surge, design issue, bad component - you name it.

I'm not sure what you mean by "what can i do regarding to "stuff" i have". Are you looking for a way to back up data? If so, and your computer has a CD or DVD writable drive, you can back stuff up to a CD/DVD. ---------------------------------------------- Work is for people who don't know how to surf Gateway Performance 700C - P4 1.8gz, 1gig RAM, ATi Radeon 9550; SB Audigy SE; Windows Vista Business, Photoshop CS3, Nikon D200

Ok...that makes sense. Here's a link to a Microsoft Support article on password protecting zipped files/folders. http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;306531&sd=tech Windows XP Pro (and Vista) include the ability to password protect and encrypt files and folders. ---------------------------------------------- Work is for people who don't know how to surf Gateway Performance 700C - P4 1.8gz, 1gig RAM, ATi Radeon 9550; SB Audigy SE; Windows Vista Business, Photoshop CS3, Nikon D200

jedi master, can it be a fresh rate issue ? i put the pc at the lab yesterday but in another forum i posted this thread, they suggested that it could be a fresh rate problem . those are couple of replys i got : 1. Ah I have a friend that has this exact same problem, he has the same exact video card. it is refresh rate is out of range, when the game loads you can hear it but not see it monitor acts like it shuts off, this is out of range issue. Lots of people are experiencing this issue with ATI cards, not all just a good hand full, 1 solution is to add " -width 1280 -height 720 " to a shortcut and see if that fixes it or others have found going into display properties and making their own display refresh rate profiles worked as well. 2. Re: Refresh Rates You should be able to lock refresh rates for specific resolutions in your ATI driver. This has the side effect of causing some games to crash to desktop without a little bit of tweaking (e.g. Battlefield 2 was notorious for this before one of the more recent patches). what do you think ?

Yeah, it could be. Most games should allow you to specifically choose both your screen resolution and refresh rate. My suggestion - never go above 1024x768. Also, most LCD's don't support a refresh rate above 75hz. Try setting it at 60hz for the game. As to your specific games, check the mfgr's website as to how to choose resolution and refresh rates. ---------------------------------------------- Work is for people who don't know how to surf Gateway Performance 700C - P4 1.8gz, 1gig RAM, ATi Radeon 9550; SB Audigy SE; Windows Vista Business, Photoshop CS3, Nikon D200
