If you have a router, there's no need to use a crossover cable from pc to pc. The router should do that for you. i.e. the desktop pc should be connected directly to the router, and the laptop should connect to it wirelessly. Second, on the computer running Vista, go to the Network and Sharing Center and make sure that the type of network shown is "private". The default setting is usually "public", which prevents other computers from "seeing" your computer. Next, enable file and printer sharing, and disable the need for a password. Then, on the desktop running XP, right-click on those particular folders you want to share, choose sharing and follow the onscreen prompts. Same basically applies to any printers connected to the XP destop. ---------------------------------------------- Work is for people who don't know how to surf Gateway 15.4" Laptop, Windows Vista Ultimate/Server 2008, Photoshop CS3, Nikon D200
