Saving images only as BMP   Post Reply

When i want to save a JPG picture (or any other size) I can only save it as a BMP.
Can anybody tell me what i have to do to change it so I can save it as JPG.

This depends on what program you are using to save your image, as some programs do not have the option to save them as JPG.

You could try saving your image with a .jpg file extension.

Or

Open mspaint which comes free with windows (Start --> Program Files --> Accessories --> Paint), as that has the option. Load your BMP into that if you have already created the image as BMP and then choose 'save as' and in the drop down menu choose 'JPG'.
You can originally save the image as JPG in mspaint if you created the image or loaded it into mspaint in the first place.

You should notice that the file is a lot smaller than the BMP one.

Okay, I am having the exact same problem. Whenever I want to save a image in Internet Explorer as a jpg, it only has a BMP file listed as an option to save as. This is really annoying!
How can I fix it?

I'm having this problem with IE as well, and it's the primary reason I just registered in these forums. It's IE6 on Windows XP SP1, but it's been a problem for a long while now, long before I got SP1.

Saving images as .bmp and opening them in an image editing program to re-save them in .jpg format is a solution, but not a great one. I've tried changing the file association for JPEG images to IE, but this doesn't fix it.

The reason we aren't able to save JPGs as JPGs is because the Temporary Internet Files have become corrupt. To solve, simply clean out the directory. Tools > Internet Options > Delete Files...
