Can't Delete a File
	krashd Newbie (1 Posts) 1/23/2007 8:57:45 PM	Solution for you all: This works for both undeletable folders AND files, browse to the folder or file that won't delete and then move back 1 so you can drag the it's parent folder containing the bad entry(s). Drag that good folder directly to your root (C:\ usually) then you can delete it. If the bad file or folder is along side stuff you want to keep just move that stuff out of the folder before you delete it and then create a folder in it;s place and put your stuff back. Microsoft states that Windows doesn't like long filenames so renaming... my_this_filename_is_so_utterly_large_it's_just_unfathomable_to_think_of_someone_doing_it_on_purpose.exe ...to... my_thi~1.exe (it's 8.3 "shortname" title) ...will do the trick. What they don't tell you however is that if the file is contained about 10 - 15 folders deep then the path length would be too large to delete it anyway, this is where transferring the folder containing the troublemaker to your root solves the problem

Now that I know the cause I completely get what is going on... People like to add as many 'keywords' as possible to a file on the p2p networks, and if the download folder is deep too, you can't touch it. Moving the containing folder to the root will allow you to delete it (or rename to something reasonable if the file is good) then you can move the folder back. krashd gets my vote for best 1st post.

	Maria82 Newbie (1 Posts) 2/19/2007 5:26:25 PM	I have a .png file that I can't delete either. I can't even rename it. The stupid file says that it's saved to a disk, which it's not. I even tried dragging it to the recycle bin, but nothing works. And there is no other way someone else is using the image. Can anyone help me please? (I have Windows 98) I'm also having problems with saved images loading. They either show up as that box with the X in it or they do load but it takes about an hour, maybe more.
