Hi, I have been having trouble with my LG DVDROM 8080B for some time now. My DVD drive will read and play DVDs wonderfully but will not read any form of cd media. It works on and off. I'm not sure whether the drive is busted or my configuration in Windows XP need to be changed. Either way I can't seem to find a solution to this problem. I would appreciate it if you could help me out. thanks

Have you flashed your DVD-ROM with the latest bios? www.rpc1.com does 'patched'
bios updates. It just might sort out your problem. Also, check out Event Viewer in System/Administrative tools on the Start bar and see if there are any errors in the System log file and if so, head over tohttp://www.eventid.net. It did occur to me that the laser for your CD may be misaligned. I have a Pioneer DVD-114 which stinks as it regularly 'clicks' and gives stuttering playback (DON'T BUY PIONEER). I found a site which showed how to adjust the drive's alignment and laser focus, but it is specific to the Pioneer 114 and can be 'hit and miss'.

Good luck!

I find that Lucky Goldstar is a very terrible company that makes low-class hardware. The next time you need to buy a DVD-ROM, I would highly recommend you get a Pioneer. I have used these for quite some time and they have never failed me.
