There is a virus being spread by MSN Messenger. You are asked to accept a picture from the person who you are talking to. If you do then a file called PICT1324(2)(1)(1)(2)(1)(1)(1).exe will be transferred to your computer and begin the process of asking others that you chat to to accept pictures as well.

The best way to avoid the file is to keep clicking Decline when asked (if the other person is affected then you will see several messages asking to accept the file)

If you do accept the file then you need to go into msconfig and remove the file from starting when Windows does. Do as follows:

1. Click on the Start button and click on Run
2. Then type in msconfig and click OK
3. You should see a screen that has System Configuration Utility in the blue bar
at the top
4. Click on the Tab that says Startup
5. Locate an entry that says MSN Messenger as the name. The filename will have
PIC1342(2)(1)(1)(2)(1)(1)(1).exe at the right hand side
6. Click the box beside the name MSN Messenger
7. Click the Apply button in the bottom right hand side of the screen
8. Then when prompted restart your computer and when Windows loads up again
locate the file on your computer (it should be in the C:/My Documents/Messenger Received Files directory) and then you should be able to delete it

I hope this helps anyone who has been affected

Good post ramesees...and unfortunately there are a few of these types of viruses making the rounds.

MSN Messenger's website has some information for one of the other viruses, and has a link to the McAfee website with more details:

I friend of mine has a msn virus, the virus was transmitted by a picture that w@ssend to her.
Now that she is infected, only msn messenger (7.0) works, all other programs (setups and register and processmanager) don't, you run them, they appear for 1-2 sec and then disappear. When she is on she keeps sending images to everyone with names like, "My on holiday" or "How a blond eats a banana" or "look at my lesbian friends"
How can this be fixed. plz reply @ssoon as possible.

This exact thing happened to me last night...I realized it @ssoon it happened, but it was 2 late...it sent one to my dad who got it also...It wouldn't let me open up my anti-virus scanner thingy nor the site a friend had given me to fix it...so my dad and I opened up web pages repeatidly until we were able 2 click tools, internet options before closing it out...we then made that site the home page and then opened that up repeatidly...we then did the same thing, only making the page that said download now!, the home page...we opened up another bazillion pages and clicked the download now button on all of them...one of them finally worked before the virus shut it off..it took about 10 seconds to download. I'm sure that there is an easier way, but that the path we chose and it worked...if you are wondering..the site is I believe... http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/w32.serflog.b.html

Howdy

I recommend downloading AVG antivirus.. This is a free antivirus software that has a lot of regular definition updates.
[url] http://www.pcworld.com/downloads/file_description/0,fid,15202,RSS,RSS,00.asp[/url]

Also once you have downloaded and installed AVG, would be a good idea to boot the computer into Safemode and try to remove the virus from there.

Also once in safemode follow the instructions from the symantec site, I will list it below.

Click Start > Run.
Type regedit

Then click OK.

Navigate to the subkeys:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\
RunServices
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\
policies\Explorer\Run
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\
policies\Explorer\Run

In the right pane, delete the value:

"[Value]" = "[File name]"

Where [Value] is one of the following:

AvSer
DsmSer
rollbk

and where [File name] is one of the following:

%System%\sysup.exe
%System%\svosm.exe
%System%\msmpatch.exe
%Windir%\dsm.exe

Remove or restore the registry values:

"DisableConfig" = "0"
"DisableSR" = "0"

In the registry key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows NT\SystemRestore

Exit the Registry Editor.

if you are having problems with the "hey larissa your a f***ing n00b" text, highlight all of the text, press delete and then file, save press the x in the top right corner and you shouldnt have any more problems with it, im not saying it will make the virus/worm go away, but say if your kids go on the computer, they wont read the profanity that the muppet who made the virus/worm wants to say

any problems email me at welshmidgit@aol.com

There is another MSN Messenger virus going around... You get a message that says lol, have a look at this then some kind of URL comes up with your e-mail address at the end of it. If you haven't accepted it DON'T!!!! If you have already delete this file mssmmspgr and it will get rid of the problem

Some of my friends had this. You know where it says "Lol, you'll like this" Then that link. Well, if you have that too, and it sends to everyone you know. just reinstall msn. That will make the spaming stop. Im not sure yet if it will stop the actual virus its self. Like make it so you cant open programs, or other things like that. But so far, it seem to stop. try that. If im wrong please tell me @ Jake_Alcorn@hotmail.com

hey i finally found a way to fix the problem by using system restore. you go to start, then "help and support" and under "pick a task" you click "undo changes to your computer with system restore". just go through that and pick a day before you received the virus. then it will restart and i'd recommend just to be on the safe side running the antivirus and everything while ur internet connection is disabled after your computer reboots. hopefully it will fix the problem on your computer the same as it did for me!

    thanx!

I HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM AS YOU COINZ AND I DID TRY MSCONFIG BUT NOTHING. EVERYTIME I SCAN WITH NORTON IT SAYS MY COMP IS STILL INFECTED. IF YOU HAPPEN TO RESOLVE THIS PROBLEM PLS POST IT HERE AND I WILL DO THE SAME. THANK YOU!!!

hey, i got a virus similar to that one where they ask you if thats your picture and they send you a link http://pictures.templates4friends.com/...email=*"your email"*)<-edited and when you click on the link it asks you to open or save. being ignorant i opened the file and it sent that same msg to everyone on my list and opened a dialogue with them. i tried saving the file to see what kind of file it was and it ended up being some ms-dos file under the file name of your email. it also disabled parts of my norton antivirus and even when i scan my pc with www.antivirus.com it wont detect nothing. i tried the msconfig and found nothing similar to what ramesees was talking about so im starting to panic. does anyone have a solution?!?!

          PLEASE HELP!!! THANX

hey i finally found a way to fix the problem by using system restore. you go to start, then "help and support" and under "pick a task" you click "undo changes to your computer with system restore". just go through that and pick a day before you received the virus. then it will restart and i'd recommend just to be on the safe side running the antivirus and everything while ur internet connection is disabled after your computer reboots. hopefully it will fix the problem on your computer the same as it did for me!

      thanx!

hey.. 1coinz.. ive got that similar virus, i wanted to try your method, however, my system restore option wasnt turned on before this. thats why i cant restore to before the virus infected my com. are there any other options? or any virus scan that can detect or wats the nameo f this virus? thanks for your help..

Hey i recently got a virus file on msn thru one of my contacts, its the same concept as all others mentioned but its a tad diffrent, the message says : 'Hey is this you?' followed by a link that contains 'msn' and ur username, i did click on it Emoticon and i realised it was a virus after confirming with my contact.

Heres wot the virus did to my computer:
1. I cant access hotmail or msn anymore but my account is still working, i checkd via other comp
2. I cant play online games, eg Steam, Diablo2, it just says "could not connect", but i can download and surf the net
3. running msconfig doesnt work so i had to dl a program which renames the files and runs them, msconfig was the only one affected, taskmgr and regedit worked

I managed to delete the received file via regedit but i dont think the virus is gone, i still cant play games or access hotmail/msn. i looked for suspicous file names in taskmgr and msconfig but cant find any. has anyone else encouterd this virus or its problems? what do i do??!? plz help Emoticon

Ok this is bad. I don't know much about computers so please bare with me. I recived a message from my friend via msn, the message said "Is this your profile pagehttp://www.imdownloads.net/profile.php?msn=norman_ethanstine_rulz@hotmail.com norman_ethanstine_rulz@hotmail.com being my e-mail address). This virus send that message with the website in a hyperlink and after you click it it brings you to the page i mentioned earlyer. The first thing taht happens when you go to the website is a seperate window pops up asking you if you trust the sorce of this download. Now im pretty stupid, and i clicked "open" which saved the file to my Program Files. When the seperate window closed the web page was blank. Being very confused, i opened the file i had just downloaded, but it didn't open. Several hours after downloading the file i shut down my computer. When i woke up the next morning i turned on my computer and tryed to log onto msn but it said i couldn't log in. I clicked on troublewshooting and it said that there was a problem with my keyports.

From what me and my several other friends have gatherd, this is one nasty virus. It stops you from using:

-Secure web pages (eg: hotmail.com, rogers.yahoo.com etc..)
-It limits your access to the iternet
-It prevents you from using/installing anti-virus software
-Possibly attatches itself to a system file

If anyone knows of any way to get rid of this virus without harming my computer (my friend deleted his system file, now he has a constant run-time error when he logs on) please post it.
Thank you in advance.

I am trying to fix a friends computer that is messed up from the same virus as Efan " I recived a message from my friend via msn, the message said "Is this your profile paghttp://www.imdownloads.net/profile.php...etc...etc@hotmail.com being my e-mail address)." My friend also mentioned that the link points you to a rar file to download which he saved to desktop then opened. This one seems to be a varient of the ones mentioned at the top of this thread. It does seem to prevent you from doing anything that will allow you to find out the problem. First off it closes msconfig with a second of trying to open it. Anti-virus will also not work. In task manager no process seems to be running out of the ordinary which makes me thing it must be labelling itself as a legit process as I looked every running one up and they all seem to be legit. So I tried killing every possible process one at a time which gave no positive result. Afterward however I restarted the comp to reset all the process' etc and upon restart was able to actually get msconfig to stay open. Once again however I was unable to find anything fishy in "startup" or elsewhere. I admit there may be something i have overlooked or missed so far but I wanted to post that others are having this problem as I think this varient is being regarded as not a problem (I read an article about I think this virus and the servie problems msn has been having lately where msn said that it did not consider this virus to be a big treat as it has a low infection rate. Well I think the infection rate on this one may be increasing and it is a bit of a nasty one. So I would think a removal tool may be in order (nudge nudge norton etc). I am going to keep trying to see if I can find some suspicious file or process' etc and if I experience any sucess will post.

Yes, Efan, Snowman. I got the same virus a few days back and can't seem to get rid of it. I tried running msconfig, and the longest it stays open is under five seconds. I exhausted any solution I could think of. If you think of anything Snowman, e-mail if you'd be so kind, I'm at: SinsofAcheron@gmail.com.

I hope this helps... I'm part of an online gaming community and many of us got this virus. All of this information comes from one of our members who also owns a computer repair store. I hope it helps. I'll check back if/when I can to help.

first check you start up...

click start > run > type "msconfig" in there (without the quotes

go to the startup tab (last tab on right)

look through the list to see if you have one called "csrss" if so you have this worm.
you will need to restart in safe mode to begin removal.

to get into safemode reboot. as computer is booting keep pressing F8

instead of safe mode choose "safe mode with networking"

The legitimate csrss.exe is part of the Microsoft client server software and is a very important part of the system which should not be removed.

One way to determine if csrss.exe is a legitimate file besides looking at the date modified is to right click on csrss.exe inside Task Manager and attempt to end process. Because csrss is a critical file, Microsoft should inform you with a message that csrss.exe is a critical system process and end it is not possible.

If you do not receive this message when attempting to end the csrss.exe process, then it may indeed be a virus. If you decide to terminate the csrss.exe process, make sure any applications are shutdown (such as word, etc) and that you have a backup of your data.

Any vulnerability should be removed immediately.

ok, the nitty gritty.

first you need to do a search for csrss

start > search > all files/folders > csrss

the only legitimate file results are ones that are in:

c:\windows\prefetch ; and is EXACTLY 35KB

&

c:\windows\system32 and is EXACTLY 6KB

DELETE THE REST!

ok, now im not sure that this is going to get rid of this but its worth a try because the manual stuff takes a long time!

im looking for a general removal tool for this one but i dont think there is one yet.

DOWNLOAD AND RUN THE FOLLOWING PROGRAM FROM SAFE MODE http://download.ewido.net/ewido-setup.exe -Ewido Anti-Malware

Hello everyone Here is what you do you go to my computer than you open up your main harddrive (usually c:) then you will go to the top of the folder click on tools then folder options go to the view catagory then you will push show hidden folders click ok. Now you will go to documents and settings go to local settings and go to temporary internet files delete them all then go to all the temporary folders delete what you can deleting will only clean up your computer since they are temporary files and this is where the backdoors usualy lay then id say try a virus scanner

Simple solution to the Win32:SdBot-3439 [Tri] anti virus it gets onto your comp by msn messenger it uses msn to send a link to all your contacts such ashttp://www.mprofiles.net/members.php?msn= the virus doesn't actually infect your computer until you save and run the dos based program this virus disables most popular virus and spyware programs however it doesn't stop avast antivirus (probably because for almost every other virus it sucks so i don't recommend it for anything other than putting it on for this virus then once its gone take it off) which efficiently removes the virus after that all you have to do is go start run msconfig and remove the 3 csrss entrys that should be at the bottom (as they are the newest) afterwards make sure to delete all temp files and everything in the recycle bin the c:\temp folder and the c:\windows\system32\temp folder for someone that wants to manually remove it the virus`s path is c:\windows\system32\oefqqgno\csrss.exe

note:
the virus also hides out in the temp internet folder and the temp folders so delete them first

This would really save me from rebooting my whole damn computer, I have no internet access with it adn there is nothing I can do to go on further. My Start menu is not displayed and I am basically in a locked out mode. I can however use my Ctrl Alt Delete system to get through it, but it is continuelly telling me that my run.dll file is not found. So any help would be much appreciated Emoticon

I got the msn virus that robotgr was referring to however i did not lcick the URL @ssoon as i clicked the msn window it self it opened up the window to the website and i was up sh!t creek without a paddle.

My problem however is far surp@ssed by any problems i have seen so far and was given no other option but to wipe my hard drive clean, i developed a fatal system error and was not able to do anything else but erase the hard drive back to when i first got it.

Luckily i had only got the computer for 5 weeks nothing critical was lost

evreytime i delete them they come bak and it only got worse , i deleted them 1ce more and the it sed cannot delete because it woz being used by another user or program. So it jus stays there now.

Evrey time im on the internet a black window keeps popping up and i jus close it .
And it automaticly types the virus link on the hompage or to one of my friends but i tell them not to open it. i also try and delete winstall but it says tht its write protected so i cant
the only thing i can delete that keeps being installed is the "mcnew" file.

The only difference with my virus is afetr i opened the link "oi is dat u:P " with the link on it

I went into MSconfig, unchecked the two csrsses that were there (Both were the bad ones.). The MSN virus (It also applied to my AIM) disabled antivirus sites and System restore, and, after finding and deleting it, the Anti virus sites still don't work. What do I do?

By the way... You get the virus as follows. Someone will send you a message (I don't know if it's sent out to everyone, if they have to open a chat window with you or not):

"Hey, is this your profile? It looks like you. Emoticonhttp://www.imstuff.us/profile.php?msn(youremailaddress)" Don't @ssume it's a bad link, and don't download it. I doubt downloading does anything, it's the executing. Executng it will delete the file, suspiciously... It'll disable your Antivirus, your run (according to some of the posters above), and your system restore. @ssoon as it sends a message to somebody, it'll close the message window, leaving you confused when people ask, "No, that's not me." or "No, I don't have one of those." Read Dantheman5187's post, I managed to get rid of the virus. Almost completely. I'm sure there're variations of the viri, since people get different messages. And, my run wasn't disabled...

Anti-virus sites remain disabled, though, how do I fix that?

1. download stinger free of charge- just go 2 google and type in stinger

3. it wil come up with a screen- while its still searching in my case- tht asks you if u want to effectivley turn ur comp clock bak
4. click yes, and choose a date
5. ur comp wil den retstart hopefully cleared of the virus- bt resettin the system takes 5mins or so so b patient!
5. turn on the comp agen adn u shud b fixed
