	Sonny Tx Newbie (1 Posts) 11/6/2001 8:03:58 PM	I recently purchased a hi-def 65" mitsub tv. had a few ?'s 1. I'm want to know which system would be the best bang for my buck! 2. Currently I don't have a dvd player, my buddy says his ps2 locks up some times. I also heard that xbox has a 3d audio chip (what does that due for my home theater system? I see that ps2 has a hi-def wireing kit, so will xbox. 3. will xbox last, i got burt when the turbo graft- x came out, dreamcast, and I know the ps2 will stick around. 4.my tv can also be used as a vga or svga, one of the two. does that mean It will more to my advantage, when I play online in the future. 	froppy1 Newbie (4 Posts) 11/9/2001 9:56:38 AM	Sonny: i'd definitely go for an XBOX. i mean, i will be going for one myself. but having the HDTV is great, as all you need to do is pick up the high-definition a/v pack for the XBOX that will give you the component video out to hook up to it. i've read the dvd on the XBOX is superb, but i'm waiting ot see for myself. included in the hd a/v pack is some nice digital audio out, i think, such that if you have surround setup, you'll be loving it. as for the vga on the tv, i don't know of any vga type connectors for the XBOX, short of buying a third-party s-video to vga adapter, which isn't worth it. just stick with the component video.

Considering that Sony are on there second games console and were still out sellin Dreamcast and N64, X-box has got a lot of living up to do. Considering also that half of the X-box's release games have already been out on PS2, will the just by a sloppy atempt of coping Sony's hard work to create a game console that will be remeberwed by us when we get old, and also Bill gates is greedy and is always looking for money, this time he has lost the war!!!!!

When Microsoft announced their European Xbox launch date, Sony revealed (1 day after) that there will be a PS3, but it has only just started being made. 	MLecl0001 Newbie (4 Posts) 3/1/2002 5:31:13 PM	I think any one who doesnt like a console or anything for that matter because of one person or company is just acting childish. I have a playstation and was so looking forward to getting a playstation 2. I barely even looked at the xbox because it was built by Microsoft. Then I kinda had a money problem and couldnt afford anything more than $400. The playstation + game + memory card would have run me over $425 plus the $199 broadband hardrive add on they r currently working on. The xbox on the other hand has superior hardware, more potential, and more bang for the buck. I got an xbox and game for $375. No need to buy a memory card. The only reason i would look at a ps2 is for final fantasy X and XI and Metal Gear Solid 2, well Metal Gear Soid X is coming for xbox and i think will be much better than ps2 version and squaresoft is actually in talks with microsoft to bring final fantasy to xbox. On top of that there are really cool games coming out for the xbox soon. I dont hate the ps2 and think it is a fine system because my friend owns one and i have played it. I also think the gamecube is a good system also but if ur going to hate on a system just because it was made by microsoft who bill gates happens to run, well thats just stupid. 	digey Newbie (5 Posts) 12/1/2002 2:19:43 AM	The best advice is fine your game style X box is First person shooter Gamecube is platform and level up kind Ps2 is a mixed bag they do many and do well on few(this is based on what i think and how well they do with the types) if u want to go online get a X BOX phuck a PS2 for online and any one who says diff SHUT UP( i ain't pay $200 for a stupid little thing when X BOX has it bulit in) as for Gamecube i watched extend play to day they said it was the same for broadband and dial up and it is easy and cheap i think(opinon based on extend play side so don't bleep to me) i f u play with friends alot X BOX if u something PS2 if u r a loner gamecube(i am aware of super smash brothers mellee but they just don't have alot) oh, i read PS3 is going to be a attachment to PS2 i ain't sure but it seems possible and like a ok idea and i think that the PS2 is on its way out the advantage the PS2 has is the time it cam out first and has pervious system and Game cube lost theirs wioth such a crappy system (n64) so this is a make up and X BOX is it don't know its limits plus once u play halo or mech assualt online u r in love

	DieHard Newbie (1 Posts) 12/5/2002 5:35:19 AM	Each system has their own advantages and disadvantages. The XBOX has the fastest system but the PS2 has the best games. And any good games available on the XBOX are also on the PS2, (the other way around isn't true however.) The one problem with PS2 is the fact that some new games are being censored, (such as BMX XXX and a few others,) which is retarded but hopefully they won't do too much of that. As for the future of the boxes, PS2 will outlast the XBOX since technically the XBOX has already been discontinued. Microsoft no longer internally officially supports it because they are spending all their time and money designing the new system which will replace the XBOX code-named the ZBOX. The line-up of games to be released is pretty impressive, but most of the ones that are actually any good will be released on the PS2 as well. If it wasn't for the censoring on the PS2 there really would be no comparison for overall gameplay, although the XBOX does have slightly better graphix. The audio on the PS2 is just as good as the XBOX with built-in capability to play Dolby Digital 5.1. The PS2 is also setup the best for future improvements having USB ports and an i1394 connection. It also can use a HDD just like XBOX. However, the XBOX does have a few features built-in that you have to pay extra for to add to the PS2 like 4 player action and network capability. If you like playing different types of games go with the PS2. If you only like first-person shooters and need the absolute best graphix in exchange for future improvements, go with the XBOX.

It also means that the PS2 can handle a lot more sophisticated Artificial Intelligence programming so that you have intelligent human-like opponents. And with a floating point calculation performance of 6.2GFLOPS/second, the overall calculation performance of this new CPU matches that of a super computer. This is a completely new CPU architecture especially designed for sophisticated graphics and physics while the architecture of the XBox CPU is pretty old and simple (it's a little less powerful than a standard PentiumIII processor). The architecture of the Emotion Engine really is very sophisticated so I'm not going to explain it in detail here. But simply put the main advantage of the PS2 CPU is that it is subdivided into lots of other tiny powerful processors, all of them designed to do a special task and almost all of them can work independently from eachother. And another thing... the processor inside the box does not say "Pentium III" anywhere. It simply reads "Intel". The XBox's processor is NOT an Intel Pentium III, as Microsoft would have you believe, but in fact a Celeron II. It is a 700mhz Celeron, complete with 128kb of L2 cache (P3 coppermines actually have 256kb L2 cache), but overclocked to a 133mhz FSB, resulting in PIII/Celeron hybrid. What makes it a Celeron II is the fact that it is still using a Coppermine Core, with 8 way set associative L2 cache rather than your typical Celeron 4 way set Level 2 cache. What it ultimately comes down to is that this Coppermine core, which allows Microsoft to market the XBox as a PIII Coppermine, is about a 10% speed increase over the Celeron equivalent of this processor. Is the XBox CPU a Celeron? Not really. Is it a Pentium III CPU in the sense that everyone thinks of a PIII Coppermine? Nope. It's somewhere in between and while it is great to run standard applications and some PC games on the side, it's not a good thing to have it as a CPU in a gaming console... The Graphics Chip and VRAM This is where the images are rendered. The XBox uses an Nvidia Graphics Processing Unit running at 250MHz and the PS2 uses the Graphics Synthesizer running at 150MHz. Again, judging by these specs the XBox looks better. This shows ignorance once more. You cannot say RISC = better than CISC. Thats like saying "blue is better than red". You have to be more specific about the type of operation. The G3 is very good as simple integer calculations. The P4 has deep pipelines that hinder it at small repetative integer operations, and the Athlon is somewhere in between. But when you factor in clock speed, the x86 CISC are for general purpose faster than G3, few things enter a simple repetative integer loop. More likely you will need floating point for games. The XBOX CPU for gaming type use far out punches the PS2. 7) There are VERY few PS2 games that put you to sleep loading (In fact, only 1: Crash Bandicoot, which isn't exactly worth the money). I agree. The XBOX is infuriating in this regard. 9) The PS2 Hard disk has 40GB of space, too. HA! The PS2 has a hard disk as standard? Wow. Things have changed. 10) Ooohhh, cool! Hardware; Hard Drive, lots of memory, Gforce3, Built in ethernet. what more could u ask for. 2. Software development. Come on guys... What OS is on every major computer in the world. The programmers use M$ windows 2 develope these games. The XBX uses Windows, so development of games is fairly ez 2 do. Go2 Sony's headquarters. There is also a new Media player that lets u play All major video/audio formats out there including the infamous Divx. Also with the ethernet port (Built in) you can setup your pc as a media stream server and stream all your video/audio directly to the Xbox. PS2 can not do that. There r so many more new things for the xbox that's coming out that the ps2 will never be able to do. I know some people that have hundreds of copied PS2 games for their system. They use large cd cases to store then on. I use a very large Hard drive to store my games(xbox) on. That way.. no scratches, less wear on the drive.. Nobody stealing them.. nothing gets lost r misplaced. just turn on the box an play my games. Oh yeah load times. Games off the hard drive loads way faster that any DVD/CD drive out there. 5. Games ok. u like rpg. fine play Crimson SEA., Metal Dungeon, Baldur's Gate Dark Alliance, etc.. Now when the ps2 1st came out it had only 1 rpg & that's FFX. Now with what we all know what the xbox is capable of doing.; If a FF games was done on this system. it'll blow the doors off of anything out there (RPG wise). Atari 2600 vs. coleco, apple II vs commodore, apple II vs. ibm, NES 8bit vs Sega 8bit, SNES vs Genesis, Playstation vs. N64, blah blah blah. I've heard the "system x sold 1 million units vs. 250,000" argument over and over. Often the tables were turned within a matter of years (think SNES vs. Genesis once SNES adoption skyrocketed). Who cares about sales and specs? i've played on virtually every console released since the 2600, and I've seen good consoles come and go and die like dogs on the market due to lack of support and bad titles. My advice: if you like the list of titles available, if the ports are good and authentic, and you have a pretty good idea the console won't dissapear next week, then buy it. Horsepower won't do a damn thing for you if you don't have any good games that you want to play to choose from. And what are good games? Different for you then for me, I'd guess. So go to Best Buy or whereever, play the in store demos, browse the boxs, read the magazines at the newsstand, then make an informed decision. Of course I'm just a middle aged blowhard right? Hear me now and believe me later.

Xbox = progressice scan DVD player There is nothing cooler than being able to play your own soundtrack with games that have that feature. (only thing that sucks is that there isnt enough!!) Bottom line Ive sold my playstation because all the games that are looking forward to are available for the box so its just been there atracting dust. I could say more great things about the box but only time will tell. If microsoft did such a great job with the x-box i cant even begin to magine the next generation x box. Its gonna be sick!!!!!

And that was Super Nintendo - for my hubby's 40th b'day. We are now looking to purchase one for our children ages 10, 8 and 4 - all girls. We are up in the air about which one to go for X-box or PS2. Which one would have the better graphics and game selections for kids...? I know the PS2 will serve as a DVD player also....what about the X-box..does it do the same...one daughter has DVD in room but the other does not. We would like a system that had a good selection of games. Not one that only had a few games available to play on it. Also, we are not much into gory details or violence. If there is such a thing.... Xbox's, PS2's, and Gamecubes are all custom built machines, and cost $700-$1000+ to make (XBOX being the most expensive). They make their money on game titles. They get a percentage of the price of the games. That's how they make their money. The machine with the most "sales" titles, is the top money making machine. Now when Xbox first came onto the scene sometime ago, Xbox was way behind in this race. But Xbox (Micorsoft) is one rich company (committing billions to the Xbox's future). And everybody, and game title has its price. At first everyone said Xbox wont last because PS2 has all the games. Fast-forward about 2 years. Xbox has nearly all the big titles. Also, gamers like you and me, want better looking, more realistic, jaw-dropping games. And developers are leaning to Xbox, and are easily taking their money, because of Xbox's more powerful "newer" design. Which has Sony pushing up its progress on the new PS3. Because everyday Sony is starting to fall from the top spot. Even in Japan (the "Gaming World") is showing a dramatic increase in Xbox sales.

But its plenty good enough to start make gaming giant Sony sweat! With gaming titles like KOTOR 2, Ghost Recon 2, Splinter Cell 3, Doom 3, SW Battlefront/Replublic Commando, DOA Ultimate, MechAssualt 2, Area 51, BattleField, Fable, and ofcourse HALO 2. The most aniticipated game, ever! There are only 2 games, that I can think of that will only be on the PS2, thats worth bringing up. Gran Turismo 4, and Final Fantasy MXVII (2107?). Personally you can keep Final Fantasy, but I think GT 4 will eventually go Xbox also. Or atleast I hope. But I remember when they said GTA 3/Vice City, Metal Gear wont go Xbox, and we all know you can get it on Xbox. Then you add in the fact that Xbox is increasing its edge over PS2 with online play, with Xbox Live becoming more and more popular. I've also seen the expected prototype for Xbox2. It's basically a dual G5. The current G5 is the fast home computer on the market. And once again there getting custom made chips and cards for it. No doubt Sony will kick it up a huge notch from PS2 with the PS3, but Xbox will release after Sony will, again. Giving them the technology edge once again. Giving people the reason to discuss if Xbox 2 will beat out sales and popularity to the PS3... P.S. I cant wait for Halo 2. The day online gaming will change! Overall I think the Xbox is the better machine, especially if you have a surround sound stereo system. but the PS2 does have way more games, and that can be nice too.

There are plenty of name-dropping titles on the Xbox. Take Xbox's top ten titles vs PS2's top ten. Which ever one has the most games you want, go for that console. Every console has a game or two that makes that console more disirable. Only game that the PS2 has exclusiveky is Gran Turismo. Other than that....well quality vs quantity again. I know on Xbox I want Halo 2, MechAssualt 2, KOTOR 2, BattleField, Fable, SW Battlefront/Republic Commando. Those are all (except KOTOR 2) set to come out within the next 2-5 months. I'm curious, whats your must have list for the PS2?

Nintendo has a bunch of games for kids, more than ps2 and xbox. You can also subscribe to thier nintendo power magazine which gives previews of thier upcomming and released games. The cube however does not come with a dvd player or have online capabilities. But I read that they will be making those as added attachments sometime later on. You can buy a nintendo power magazine at wal-mart I think. The Gamecube also has a faster processor than the Ps2. Its like 430mhz. But for some games you need a memory card.

I have to say that the development controls put on Xbox from Microsoft are some of the worst I have ever seen. There will not be any serious RPG's for the Xbox. I really cant tell that much difference in the graphics of the two systems. I consider myself a video game coniseur having systems such as Oddysey II and Atari 2600 all the way through the current video game consoles. All of my consoles work - EXCEPT XBOX. It is now a 7.5 lbs. paperweight. I get the infamous "disk read error" and microsoft want $80 to fix it. I am a grown adult and can take of my belongings. I take game of all of my systems. My xbox has been sitting in my entertainment center since the day i opened the box (no - there is no dust on it either). This is cleary a manufacturer defect. I can almost buy a new xbox for $80. Yes, xbox has some killer games out but most of them you can get on PS2. So when it comes to xbox vs. ps2 I'm gonna have to vote for ps2 - at least it still works. So all of you other xbox owners, you better sell it while it still works or you'll be stuck with a cool looking door stop.

Some ps2 game has bettet graphic. and ps2 isn't slower that xbox. my friend has xobox and i have ps2. we both have rainbow six 3. we started them at the same time and ps2 loaded the game faster but when tried load saved game xobox was faster.

First you Have to have and know some things to continue and succed You Need:swap magic CD v3.0 & DVD v2.0 gameshark version 3/4 cdloader v7 & adobe reader 3.0+for PDFs you can download cdloader from the internet (search in google)but the gameshark and swapmagic you have to buy because there coded for PS2. Finally you need to find out what version PS2 you have if you don't know, you can go tohttp://www.mod-chip.com/ps2version.htm Ok once you've done all of the above you can follow the directions below and play PS2 backup games. ENJOY Gameshark 2 V3/4/AR MAX CD BACKUPS 1. Insert and let gameshark V3/4 boot 2. Select the codes you want/if none skip this step 3. Select Start Game 4. The cd/dvd drive will now eject automatically. 5. Replace the Gameshark 2 V3/4 with the swap magic cd. Once you have made the appropriate swap press eject to close the cd/dvd drive and press x. 6. 	busemans Newbie (11 Posts) 12/14/2004 2:41:45 PM	i have played both systems and find alot of good qualities in both but if you want to upgrade and modify your box to do anything, you need an xbox. the xbox is a cleron 733 processor with an nvidia card. that is a home computer. you can change your drive if you want. (i'm about to) you can use a mod chip and run any kind of game that you can put on a disk. you can hook a keyboard and video screen to it and get on the internet and you can upgrade to a larger hard drive. anyway, back to the systems. the playstation 2 is an excellent system with a ton of fun games. the graphics are great and the game choice is huge. lots of different controllers and things to do. you can watch dvds and i believe it plays cds. the xbox doesn't have as many games but is catching up. the graphics are better and with modifications, you can play games from any brand system once you copy them to disk (nintendo, atari, sega, playstation, and pc). the controllers are larger but, what can you do. it does allow dvd and cd play back also.
