My Xbox Locks up   Post Reply

my xbox continues to "lock up" while playing KOTOR2. I tried to clean the lens with a lens cleaner (Staples) and it still locks up.
I have cleaned the game disc (the second one I bought - thought the first one was defective) and it would play for about ten to fifteen minutes then lock up again. I rebooted the xbox and it would play fine, but at the start screen it would lock up. When I could play it, there would be a lag.
I tried other games (Mech@ssault, Burnout3) and they either locked up or had sound or video problems.
I recently installed xbox live - could that be the problem or is that just a coincidence?
Could this be something wrong with the DVD drive?
Any help will do.

Probably the drive. Dvd repair link herehttp://www.llamma.com/xbox/Repairs/xbox_dvd_repair.htm
If you're not comfortable opening the drive just replace drive w/ samsung or phillips.

Well, I have the same problem, and I have a Samsung. It happens on every game I own (I own 10) except for Halo 2. The problem is, DVD drives get old and break for no reason sometimes. So i just ordered a brand new Thomson drive off ebay for $40 (including S&H). I have opened and cleaned the samsung drive and have upgraded the fan from 7 volt to its full 12 volt potential with a part from llama.com . I also added a heat sink to the graphics chip. So its not cooling problems. Nothing worked, so Im buying a new drive. I recommend you do the same. Samsung gets over $100 on ebay, thomson $30-35, and phillips somewhere in between. BTW, all the parts I've used except the DVD drive came from llama.com, they also have tutorials for opening and cleaning the xbox. I highly recommend them for most parts and/or tutorials. Good luck!
