Sometimes when I launch Internet Explorer, a box appears advising of 'Work Offline.' I can either click on Work Offline or Try Again. It only happens sometimes, what can I do to stop this from happening?

I've had this problem for over a year!! And finally I found the fix online - Here you go ...... best of luck!

Look in the registry (START >> RUN >> REGEDIT)

Using regedit, find the folder:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\WebCheck

And check that these two *String* keys are set to auto:
"LoadSens"="auto"
"LoadLCE"="auto"
Create them if necessary!

TADAAA!! And that's all, FOLKS!! Hope it helps!

I have been having this problem and just living with it. I finally decided to look into more and found this thread along with a similar response on the Microsoft site.

My issue is that I set them (per this thread), and then, when I run IE again ... IT CHANGES "LoadSENS" BACK TO "Yes"! This is severly ticking me off. What is causing IE (or some other associated program/function) to do this? Does anyone know how to keep this from happening?

Thanks,

Nolan

I'm not sure what causes this, but I found a fix online at:
http://www.mnworks.net/techtalk/message.asp?MessageID=54

Here's what it says in a nutshell:

Change the LoadLCE and the LoadSens values from "yes" to "auto." The computer must be rebooted for the changes to take effect. If these values get changed back by themselves after a reboot, then check the Run key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run If you find an entry called "loadwc", delete it and reboot again.

I didn't find a Run key for "loadwc" in the registry as the post on MnWorks suggests, but I found the "loadwc" program in C:\\Windows\System by doing a START >>FIND>>loadwc. I deleted that program then went back to the registry and changed the LoadLCE and the LoadSens values back to "auto" again, rebooted and, presto, everything seems to work fine now.

I'm not sure what loadwc does (but, incidentally, a tech support guy at SBC Yahoo! also told me to delete it when he tried to troubleshoot), so if anybody could explain what it is, why it causes this problem and whether there is any harm in deleting it, feel free to fire away.

Good luck.

hello.
i'm using IE 5.00.2614.3500
i have a cable modem connection.
i use the connection thru a router (sharing with 3 other computers).

i'd had a bunch of internet-related software loaded on my computer a while back, and at some point i started seeing that "work offline / try again" window popping up when i'd go to use IE. for this reason and many other (more grave) issues, i ended up reinstalling everything on my pc after a nice clean hard drive formatting. i took my time between installing, from program to program, curious as to which one had caused this window to start popping up. finally, IT HAPPENED. i'd installed icq 2003 beta, which i'd done just before the big 're-install', and there came that window again. i started looking up solutions online, discovering this forum and a bunch of others with solutions that usually involved changing loadSENS to "auto" in regedit. after trying a bunch of different combinations of solutions (including one that suggested i make sure the "automatically detect settings" box was checked in IE's LAN settings, opening the browser, connecting, then going in and unchecking the box -- which may or may not have helped) i eventually just deleted the LoadSENS registry entry all together.

and voila!

(don't you just love that "voila!" moment?)

anyways, all this to say, if you happen to be in a similar situation, given the info stated above, try what i tried, and you may not see that annoying little window again.

thanks.

The only thing that works for me is placing a batch with a ping command to some web site in the startup folder. I did it manually by opening a cmd prompt, pinging a web site, then opened IE and the msg box didnt come up. The registry stuff and the other things didnt work for me. But thanks anyways because at least I'm not the only one going thru this. Sorry, tho! LOL

loadwc.exe loads user profiles on a multi-user desktop/workstation afaik. I find it safer to rename the file to loadwc.ex_ or something like that, because if you ever need to run IE repair tool, apparently you'll need this to be renamed back to loadwc.exe for repair to work.

Simple solution :

Tools, Internet options,Connections, Lan Settings

Always detect network settings (uncheck this box for the moment)
Save changes then close the browser.

Open the browser again

Always detect network settings (check this box)

Save changes and HEY PRESTO !!

It seems as if this setting gets garbled so that Internet Explorer does not see a Lan connection at first. By changing the setting to off then on again it resets it properly.

Does anyone have any other ideas for a solution to this?

My LoadSens and LoadLCE are both on "auto," i don't have a "loadwc" file, and i even tried the "always detect network settings." Nothing has worked.

I used to have comcast HSI, then switched to verizon DSL. I think this started happening a couple weeks after i switched. I don't think i installed any other programs around that time either. The work offline box will come up every once in a while (especially if the computer has be idle). Also when i switch profiles in outlook express it crashes a lot.

You really don't need to go into the registry in order to make this work. IMHO messing with the registry should be a last resort.

All this really does is turn off "Automatically detect settings" in your LAN settings.
Internet Explorer > Tools > Internet Options > Connections > LAN Settings
Just make sure "Automatically detect settings" are off, and you should be good.

I tried all of these things and to no avail. But the good news is......the fix is in Windows Updates, I'm not sure which one because this computer is set up for auto updates. Good thing cause, I probably wouldn't have gone for updates for at least at few months. By then I would have lost it with the work off-line checkmark. I'm guessing the download is one of the IE service packs. So the lesson here is...don't blow off your updates.

WINDOWS 98 SE, Internet Explorer 6.0

I've been having this problem for over a year too. However, it always occurs when
I'm logging off of my computer and Windows Explorer is open. I'll get the box that asks you whether you'd like to "work offline", when I'm already "offline" working with Windows Explorer, but if I click "yes", and try and close Windows Explorer, it crashes Windows Explorer, and I have to use the re-set button to re-boot and log back onto the computer in order to operate the computer. This happens most often when Windows Explorer is open and I'm logging off of the computer for the night. Sometimes Windows Explorer crashes, when I try to close it, sometimes it doesn't, which has me further confused.

My question is this: Will this fix work for WINDOWS 98 SE, with a dial-up modem? I noticed that this is a "DSL" fix, and I'm using a dial-up. I tried the Internet Explorer fix noted above, but "Automatically Detect Settings" is already unchecked! This is also driving me CrAzY!!!

Thanx, Lida

Sorry about the dup. Can anyone help with my question above? I'm afraid to mess with the registry until I'm sure the fix will work with Windows 98 SE, dial-up modem.

Try changing your homepage and reset your web settings. Restore defaults in Internet Explorer.

Open your Internet Explorer > Tools > Internet Options > Programs > Reset web settings
Open your Internet Explorer > Tools > Internet Options > Advanced > Restore Defaults

Maybe the following works:

goto Start -> Settings -> Network Connections, right-click "Local Area Connection", choose properties and then uncheck "Notify me when this connection has limited or no connectivity"

Nice piece of information in this page. Thank you all for the inputs. I just downloaded IE 7 beta and the above said problem "rolled over" from IE 6... and I found Mr. fixit's suggestion most trivial... and most USEFUL ! thank you fixit

Hi I am with you. Our situation is almost identical. Tried all of these fixes from here with absolutely no result. Tried additional Adaware & AVG that did find trojan dialers BUT still were unable to remove the annoyance " workoffline"

I have the same problem of sorts. When I log onto IE, the computer automatically defaults me to Work Offline. I believe that the fixes mentioned in these posts will fix the situation, but I am also unsure of how to create the strings of "LoadSens"="auto" "LoadLCE"="auto" . Can someone talk me through this?

I found another fix after researching the Work Offline problem at Microsoft's Technet. Basically, a small program called mobsync.exe (also has a .dll of the same name) causes the problem when saving the status of Internet connection after an alteration. You have to go into your Registry (WARNING: You should be very careful in making registry changes and prior to any modification you should make a full backup. I use "regedit" in the Run box of the start menu then I select the Registry menu from the top of the regedit window and select Export Registry File. Before saying okay enter a name for the file and select the "All" button in the Export Range box at the bottom of the export registry file window). Once the registry is done exporting itself (this can take awhile - please be patient), you need to go to HKEY_Current_Config. Drill down to Software->Microsoft->Windows->CurrentVersion->InternetSettings . Under InternetSettings there is an entry called EnableAutodial . This value gets corrupted from the proper Reg_DWORD type to Reg_Binary. You need to replace the EnableAutodial Reg_Binary with a DWORD using the identical name "EnableAutodial" with 0 as the Hexidecimal Value Data. I renamed the EnableAutodial Reg_Binary to EnableAutodialOld and then used the Edit pull down menu to add a New DWORD Value named EnableAutodial with 0 as the hexidecimal Value Data. These modifications are not for the faint of heart and if done incorrectly they may cause great harm to your computer. I do not know if just deleting the Reg_Binary version of EnableAutodial will also work since I went for the replacement. Apparently this is a know issue and you can find a page detailing the problem at the following link:http://support.microsoft.com/kb/315315

This corrected my problems on a Windows 2000 SP4+ machine running IE6 (fully patched) since the settings for LoadSens and LoadLCE were at the "auto" setting. Good Luck!

as well as right click IE ->properties->

I like wine but not that much

Where can I go to disable and change page besides the two options I listed above....
