For me, it was to DELETE a dead shortcut in 'My Places' on the file open dialog box, I had forgotten I added a long time ago that suddenly changed. Tearing my hair out, I did everything previously suggested for this symptom, before I finally stumbled onto it.

That is my story and hope it helps someone! It's an easy first check at least.

Regards,
Steve S.

Has anyone experienced this? What's my fix? Thanks!

As a work-around, click File, Save As, click My Computer on the left and select your mapped Network Drive from there. This worked for me while the Save In dropdown was not responding.

It is 2009 and I am running into this same problem, could there be new updates for XP or windows 2003 that cause this problem that now need to be removed?

Whats now my fix, can you help? Thanks Mona

After being frustrated for a week, I fixed the Not responding in "Save as".
FIX: Open My Computer, go to Folder Options, Click on View, Uncheck "Automatically search for Network Folder and Printers". DONE FIXED, Very happy.
